Google's new tech can turn any existing ANC earbuds into heart rate monitors

Google's research team has introduced a groundbreaking technology called APG. This innovation enables regular noise-cancelling earbuds to function as heart rate monitors without the need for extra hardware. All it takes is a simple software update to equip your existing earbuds with this acoustic sensing system. Google says APG is an acoustic sensing system that sends a low-intensity ultrasound probing signal using the speakers on ANC earbuds and headphones and receives the echoes via the onboard microphones. The company also built a mathematical model to then analyze and convert the ultrasound echoes into heart rate readings.
